Arts and Music
The city of Columbus has lots to offer in terms of attractions, sports,
and entertainment. If you are interested in the arts, the Short
North is the place to be. There are gallery hops the first Saturday
of every month, which include live entertainment and great spirits as
well as breathtaking art displays. There are several venues in Columbus
for those who love the orchestra or
Broadway performances. The Ohio
Theatre, as well as the Palace Theatre, Southern Theatre, Capitol
Theatre, Chicago Theatre, Shubert Theatre, and many others serve as venues
for famous Broadway shows and other performing artists.
Sports
Columbus is also home to major sports teams such as NHL Columbus
Blue Jackets ice
hockey team, MLS Columbus Crew soccer
team, and The Columbus Clippers.
The newest team to call Columbus home is the Columbus
Destroyers, the new Arena Football team. Perhaps the most popular
sports team in central Ohio are The Ohio
State Buckeyes football team. In the 2002 season, the Buckeyes won
the National Championship title versus the Miami Hurricanes in a triple
overtime thriller. Close to Columbus is Mad
River Mountain which
offers several ski trails and snow tubing.
Nightlife
New to Columbus is the Arena
District, which serves as the hot nightlife spot of downtown Columbus.
Filled with restaurants, bars, a large movie theater, and Nationwide Arena-home
of the Blue Jackets and the Destroyers, the Arena District is a great
place to be . Coming soon to the Arena District is Union Station. If you
are looking for a place to go dancing, then Long
Street Entertainment is the place to be. Boasting 6 clubs in one spot,
Long Street is a great place to dance the night away.
Other Attractions
Columbus
is well known for the Columbus Zoo.
Founder, Jack Hanna is famous for his T.V. show, "Jack Hanna's Animal
Adventures. The zoo currently features a display called "Islands
of Southeast Asia". During the holidays, the zoo offers special events
such as "Wildlights", in which the entire zoo grounds becomes
a spectacular light display. This year Wildlights begins on November 21.
COSI (Center of Science and
Industry) is yet another big attraction in Columbus.
It offers interactive displays and demonstrations in all areas of science,
including physics, chemistry, and biology. This is a great place to take
the kids or become a kid again yourself. |
